I currently compete at the Adult Gold level.
Can you explain what these levels mean?
A lot of us at this level are doing axels (1.5 rotations in the air), and are landing or working on double jumps (2 rotations in the air). Our programs in competition are anywhere from 2:40-3 mins depending on the competition and rules. You progress in skating by taking on-ice tests to show your skills in front of judges. The highest level is Adult Masters. Fun fact- I've seen skaters well into their 40's at this level still doing triple jumps.
Why watch or follow adult skating?
Adult skating actually does have a competitive side. Sometimes you'll see former elite skaters that decide to compete at the Adult Masters level so they can continue to do something they love. We also have non-qualifying and qualifying options for skaters. Qualifying competitions mean the skater will attend Sectionals in their area, and the top four skaters will advance to Adult Nationals. However, no matter what track we choose, we are here to support each other and bring an unexplained joy to the ice. We want people to know it's never too late to stay active or pursue your dreams and hobbies!
